Kid intends to use the $75k winnings towards college. That is a waste; he’ll qualify for a full-ride scholarship at any number of top flight engineering schools (Carnegie Mellon, HMC, Caltech, Stanford, etc.) & should take it.
His greatest value is HIM, greatest value created is to use the $ to experiment & prove out his ideas; his own “idea factory.” Use as seed $ to incorporate, accept minority stake investors to continue research. Funding while retaining control of your work.
MIT & others will be throwing grad fellowship offers at him.
