Many people have a misconception of taking rest as increasing the sleeping hours which is incorrect. The right type of relaxing your body and mind can be more rejuvenating than just getting sleep. First of all, we need to understand that sleep and rest are not the same things. We think we have rested enough as we have slept for a longer period, but in reality, we are missing out on other types of rest that our body needs desperately. While performing the best at our workplace and giving our best to carry the family goals, we are so driven that we forgot to give proper rest to our bodies. This chaotic nature of high-achieving, high producing at your work-life leaves you chronically tired and burned out individuals. Taking proper rest plays a major role in leading a fit and healthy life.

What are the Various Types of Rest that a Human Body Needs?

As per research, it is found that there exist seven types of rest that every person needs. Every individual should allow their body to rest in these seven key areas, which are discussed below:

  • Physical Rest: The first type of resting your body is to take physical state which can be achieved through proper sleep. In addition, relaxing your body in a reclining position where every muscle of your body gets proper contraction to refill with blood and oxygen also comes under physical rest. Moreover, physical rest also includes giving enough time to the digestive system to process well and remove the toxins that are built during the day when you were active.
     
  • Mental Rest: Do you know that every single working individual who often starts their day with a cup of coffee in a very cool way sometimes goes through a difficult time concentrating on their work? Many of them say that even after taking a sleep of seven to eight hours they feel as if they never went to bed. This happens mainly because of mental rest deficit. The brain is filled with lots of thoughts and conversations that individuals struggle to switch off their brains at sleep time. So, to get mental rest there is no need to plan a vacation or quit your job, you just need to take breaks every two hours throughout the day that will remind you to calm down. 
     
  • Creative Rest: When your brain is occupied with lots of brainstorming tasks constantly it cannot do best what it is capable of. Therefore, it is necessary to take a break from regular tasks and free your brain to come up with more creative solutions and ideas. Giving creative rest to your brain help you to excel at your workplace more productively.
     
  • Sensory Rest: This kind of rest is all about resting your senses from bright lights, computer screens, multiple conversations, background noise, and many more. The constant exposure of our senses to sounds, lights, or information can bombard our senses. So, it is necessary to keep them in restoration mode by unplugging them from the electronics, media, or noise. Try to close your eyes during your work for a while and engage your brain with the environment. In this way, your senses get the much-needed rest and function well at the time of need.
     
  • Emotional Rest: Most of us think emotionally. This further creates anger issues when situations are not favorable and anger is very harmful to health. Emotionally unstable people can destroy themselves by creating negative energy. The best way to get emotionally restored is to take a break from your feelings or situations that make you feel malice or sad.
     
  • Social Rest: Taking a social rest is very important. We need to differentiate the group of people that revives us and the other one that exhausts us. In today’s hyper-connected world it is quite difficult to get the time for yourself. It does not mean that we are not social beings, but just to get a break and enjoy the silence and our own space.
     
  • Spiritual Rest: This is the ultimate rest that all human beings need at the end of their day. Spiritual health is much essential for your mental health. After dealing with a challenging world and its demands, it is essential to restore your body with some peace and tranquility. Spiritual practices help us to calm down our emotions, get positive energy, and throw away all the negativity.
