It’s proof of concept. If they can calculate a 100 Trillion digit, non repeating, irrational number in like, 3 years of real time, what else can they compute? With that amount of memory alone needed to reliably store 100,000,000,000,000 digits, we can begin modeling some real complex shit. Are we finally going to start seeing accurate and practical weather prediction models? What does this say in the realms of astro or particle physics, will we be able to accurately model things like the formation of planets, maybe properly figure out where the moon came from, or even our universe?

This is the computing equivalent of testing a jet engine in the lab before putting it on a plane, and in terms of computing power this is a pretty impressive jet engine.
