Whether you own a company, run a restaurant, lead a political party, or manage a sports team, one thing has become mandatory so as to successfully help your venture grow. A company needs a social media strategy to market its products, a political party needs it to attract and enlarge its voter base, and sports team needs it to woo its fans. Though superficially all these three seem the same thing, there is world of difference between them as far as strategizing a specific social media campaign is concerned.

There are many reasons as to why a solid social media strategy is indispensable to running a profitable business. Firstly, social media allows the concerned business or venture to connect and engage with millions of people simultaneously. Secondly, social media has helped businesses transcend geographical boundaries, as a result of which companies can secure links with its customers or even other businesses easily thereby expanding their footprint in the industry. Moreover, the various features of social media platforms make it extremely easy for companies to create content, make ads, and launch products on these platforms. Also, several social media platforms offer complaint redressal mechanisms so that customers can put forth their grievances and get them addressed and solved in a short span of time. Social media management has due to these advantages have become so vital that almost all organizations, both public and private, hire and employ dedicated teams to chalk out an organization-specific social media strategy, which will help the organization in expanding its operations.

How to Formulate a Realistic and Viable Social Media Strategy?

In order to run a business in a robust way and help it flourish, an ambitious yet viable social strategy is a must. As said earlier, companies have now started hiring teams which are assigned this work of social media management. These teams follow a certain path and come up with a company-specific social media strategy to further achieve the goals of their business. Though the specific steps are unique and different for each business, an overarching framework exists which is more or less similar. The overarching framework is provided here:

The social media strategy should be framed in such a way that it reflects the aims and goals of the business and tries to achieve them. However, while setting these goals, it should be kept in mind that they must be specific, tangible and quantifiable, practical, and achievable. Also, the social media management team should have an idea about the timeframe in which the business aims to achieve these goals.

  1. Defining Your Target Audience

Though social media lets you connect with thousands of people around the globe, a set of target audience must be defined in order to frame a sector-specific social media strategy. The target audience can be customers or other businesses also. For example, an apparel company in the US, while formulating its business strategy can conduct a survey as to what type of garments senior citizens in the US like to wear. Thus, the target audience in this case are the senior citizens of the US. Similarly, target audience for a political party in India can be Indian citizens above the age of 18 years as voting rights are entitled only to citizens above 18 years. Defining the target audience in such a way helps the company to formulate policies which helps in attracting people from defined section.

  1. Keeping Track of Your Competitors on Social Media

In today’s world of free market, competition not only exists but is also encouraged. As a result, a single sector or industry consists of thousands of market players which are competing for the same customer base or target audience. In such a scenario, keeping a track of the social media activity of your competitor will help in gaining an insight about the competitor’s business plan and will thus help you in formulating your own future course of action.

  1. Creating Appropriate Content

Choosing and creating the correct form of content to deliver the right message to your target audience is extremely important. Content can be delivered in the form of videos, personalized messages, blogs, etc. The format of the content, once chosen, can then be created by a dedicated team of content creators.

  1. Feedback Mechanism

While formulating a social media strategy, a feedback mechanism should be created which can help the company in improving its performance. For creating a robust feedback mechanism, measuring results of the social media campaign is vital. Similarly, regular engagement with the customers and the target audience can be given an idea as to what more can be done by the company to improve its performance.
