The sky is probably the limit when it comes to technological advancements and their penetration in numerous industries. A pressure transducer is one such advancement that is extensively used to measure atmospheric pressure, level or depth monitoring in case of liquids, pressure of a fluid, force exertion of the fluid, etc. With different types of pressure transducers, many applications fall in the way. Additionally, market analysts predict that the demand for pressure transducers would surge exponentially by 2030 and the pressure transducers market would grow at 11.29% CAGR in the 2022-2030 timeframe.

Applications of Pressure Transducers

Here’s a list of some common applications of pressure transducers:

  1. Identifying a gas leak
  2. In the food & beverage industry to measure the pressure in bottling lines
  3. In automotive and aircraft manufacturing test stands for measuring water, air, and fuel pressures
  4. Detecting a break or leak in water pipes
  5. Measuring the water level in a tank
  6. Measuring pump pressure

Factors to Consider Before Buying a Pressure Transducer

There are several types of press transducers for different applications since each pressure transducer has different aspects that will define it’s working process. And so, it’s essential to consider the below-mentioned factors before buying one.

  1. Determining Application and Measurement Type

As stated earlier, pressure transducers come in different types like gauge, bidirectional, absolute, vacuum, differential, and sealed gage. Once you determine the application, the suitable measurement type of the pressure transducer will be clearer.

  1. Determining Pressure Range

The most important decision is determining the pressure range and keeping in mind two different considerations:

  • Instrument’s accuracy and protection from overpressure. From the accuracy point of view, the range of the transducer should be low so that the error percentage is minimized.
  • Consequences of overpressure damage due to faulty design, operating errors, etc.
  1. Installation Environment and Temperature Range

Since a pressure transducer is a sensitive device and even small temperature changes or vibrations can cause errors in its output. Moreover, one must also take corrosion protection into consideration and so, it’s always safe to install or place pressure transducers inside explosion-proof housings or by using safe designs.

  1. Accuracy and Output

Pressure transducers come in multiple accuracies that usually range from 0.5% to 0.05% of the full-scale output. In case you wish to read very low pressures, you can also opt for higher accuracies for a critically demanding application.

Just like accuracies, pressure transducers have different outputs like radiometric, amplified voltage output, mA output, mV/V output, digital outputs like USBH, etc. And so, it’s crucial to understand the pros and cons of each output to select the best output type for your application.

Buying Pressure Transducers Without Worries!

Now that you know which factors to consider before buying a pressure transducer, you can easily use the device and avoid problems like corrosion, installation issues, output errors due to temperature extremities, vibration, etc.
