(Reuters) – The dying toll from a fireplace at a mine owned by ArcelorMittal (NYSE:) in Kazakhstan rose to 38 folks on Sunday, and a search operation for eight miners continued, the Ministry for Emergency Conditions stated on Sunday.
“The search operation is hampered by the presence of destroyed mining tools, in addition to rubble in some locations”, the ministry stated in a press release.
On Saturday, operator ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the native unit of Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal, stated 206 of 252 folks on the Kostenko mine had been evacuated after what seemed to be a methane blast.
The Ministry for Emergency Conditions stated it was nonetheless monitoring the fuel state of affairs on the mine.
