B-Stock’s Summer Teammate Spotlight 2022: Meet Sahmeirah Choi

B-Stock is so excited to welcome Sahmeirah Choi to the Engineering team this summer! As a summer teammate, we know Sahmeirah will be an incredible asset to the company. Sahmeirah is studying Computer Science with a concentration in Software Development at Marist College. Learn a bit more about Sahmeirah and see their answers to some questions below.

Q: What are you most excited to learn at B-Stock?

I’m most excited to learn more about the people who power B-Stock. It’s clear that everyone on my team has extensive knowledge and experience to impart on us interns, and it makes me feel really motivated to come to work in this environment every day with an open mind.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? (Or still want to be!)

When I was a kid I wanted to be on Broadway. Growing up, I always loved to perform and after I saw Wicked for the first time, I fell in love with musical theater.

Q: What is one piece of advice you’ve been given that has stuck?

My mother always told me “to never settle for anything less than your desired outcome.” Her advice has always stuck with me. I find myself referring to it the more I advance in my career.

Q: Where can people find you after work or school?

After work, you can find me at the gym or at a kickboxing class.

Q: What is a hidden talent of yours?

I’m really good at recognizing niche voice actors in adult animated TV shows.

Q: What plays in the background while you work (music genre, podcast, news)?

Most of the time I’ll either have lofi beats playing while I work or I work in silence.

Q: Where would you go with unlimited PTO?

If I had unlimited PTO, I would island hop in the Caribbean.

Q: What do you do when you’re stuck creatively? How do you get the creative juices flowing?

When I’m stuck creatively, I’ll either read or journal.

Q: What’s something you’ve accomplished that you’re proud of?

When I was 15 years old I interviewed Misty Copeland, the first African-American principal ballet dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, for a Women’s History Month event at the Museum of the City of New York.

Q: What is one thing you hope to contribute to B-Stock?

Here at B-Stock, I’m hopeful that I can communicate the unique knowledge I’ve accumulated as a Black woman entering the tech industry. It is my belief that my experiences in my identity as a Black woman in spaces such as this one can cultivate an even more inclusive space at B-Stock. In expressing our collective narratives through our work, we can make B-Stock a company that is more than adequately prepared to expand the ways in which we approach the recommerce industry.
