Andrew Morten, founder of TravelEssence and Little America, and Victor van Tol, founder of SnappCar, announced that they have launched a new venture, SleeperChargers.
Based out of Maarssen, the Netherlands, SleeperChargers is an accommodation booking site primarily for electric vehicle drivers who want to stay in a hotel and charge their EVs overnight. With this new venture, the duo hopes to make travelling more accessible and convenient for electric car drivers.
Andrew and Victor founded the company based on the challenges they experienced during long-distance travel by electric vehicles (EVs).
“We have experienced the first difficult days of long-distance travel by EV- the planning, the cold sweats into the sub-zero no battery to go zone, the hassle of charging last thing or first thing. Then, standing still on the side of a highway charging that one extra time, instead of enjoying being somewhere,” says Andrew and Victor.
SleeperChargers: How does it work?
SleeperCharger is the travel solution for EV drivers seeking places to stay with a 100 per cent verified charging point.
The Dutch company has partnered with Expedia Groups and offers 10K hotels in Europe with a guaranteed charger for your electric vehicle at the hotel or within 250m. The accommodations include hotels, seaside cottages, chateaus, and retreats.
SleeperCharger has also linked 40K+ publicly accessible and properly functioning charging stations within 250 metres to available hotels and accommodations.
SleeperCharger’s analysis shows that 40 per cent of the specified power points on location do not work or do not comply as advertised.
“We see many properties claim to have an EV charger, but they mean a household plug on an extension cord that adds only 50-80 km overnight if it works at all, and the closest decent EV charger is still many miles away,” says the duo.
Currently, SleeperCharger is the largest provider of hotels with verified charging stations. In addition, SleeperChargers claims to verify, monitor, and provide the most up-to-date information on chargers at or near hotels and other accommodations.
